Born a healthy young boy, John Paul suffered a tragic near drowning accident at the age of two. This story is about a mother that continues to dedicate her entire life to taking care of a quadriplegic son who is now 18 years of age, with family members that rallied behind her. Gina Ventre Harbison has gone to great lengths to give her son a life outside of medical facilities to keep him at home. Although John Paul has lived most of his life as a quadriplegic he still smiles most days because he knows he's loved.
As a toddler,
John Paul stumbled into into a landscape pond that had been drained but had filled with rain water at the family Easter Sunday celebration. He was partially submerged for 3 minutes and sustained a devastating brain injury. He was revived but was given a 1% chance of surviving the night, as he suffered a severe and global anoxic brain injury. John Paul cannot walk, talk, eat, drink or move a muscle without the help of his primary care giver, his mother Gina Ventre Harbison. Through all of this, this brave boy continues to love life....he smiles and responds to his environment which is truly a gift.
Over the years their have been many supporters, friends and sometimes even anonymous caring individuals that have provided financial assistance, love and above all support. Past generous donations have allowed the family to purchase a vehicle to transport John Paul, wheelchair, and other medical aids. On October 6th, friends and family members are staging a benefit at Big Buls Roadhouse (Big Buls ) to raise money for the continued on-going medical care for John Paul . We are asking for your immediate donations in advance to insure October 6th is a financial success for John Paul. All donations will go to the medical care for John Paul. Thank you for your support.
