Jalen White Debonair Scholorship

Dear Family and Friends

My name is Jalen “Jay” White. I am the current Secretary for Kappa Leadership League for Chattanooga (KLL), which I have been a proud member for 4 years. I joined KLL because of their commitment to serve the community; their dedication and focus on preparing young men for college; and their ideology of grooming future leaders. Through the leadership of KLL I am learning the importance of furthering my education. With their help and the guidance of my parents I know knowledge is power which can also bring about change. My father, Harry White Jr., joined Kappa Alpha PSI, Inc. more than 25 years ago and is a current member of the Chattanooga Alumni Chapter, which is the sponsor for KLL Chattanooga.

I will be participating in the Kappa Leadership Scholarship Diamond Debonair, which will be held on March 3, 2018, and I am asking for your support in my efforts to raise $6,000. A portion of the monies raised will be shared with me in the form of a scholarship. The portion of the money I receive is to assist with my college expenses, provided I am enrolled full-time in a four-year accredited College or University. The Chattanooga Alumni Chapter & Lambda Iota Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc in partnership with the Kappa Foundation of Chattanooga will retain the balance of the funds raise. This money will be used to assist with the programs designed to build current and future KLL leaders.

I am a junior at Chattanooga Christian School, have participated on the homecoming planning and entertainment committee for the past 2 years and a member of the track team. As a certified lifeguard, I have been employed by the City of Chattanooga for 2 years during the summer months. My family and I attend Mount Canaan Baptist Church where we have been members for the past 4 years. I enjoy listening to music and my favorite past time is dancing. Most of all I enjoy bringing happiness to those around me. I love serving my community and currently have more than 200 community service hours, volunteering with Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Awareness, Chattanooga Minority Health Fair, Adapt-a-Family, Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance, Partnering Schools and other various events and programs.

My future plans are to attend college and become a physician, specializing in oncology radiology, with hopes of helping those who battle cancer. My passion for this specialty is a result of watching my mom battle and beat breast cancer, while also witnessing my favorite aunt and hero, Dinah Harpp fight and loss her battle to ovarian cancer. I myself was diagnosed with debilitating abdominal migraines, which caused me to spend many days hospitalized and caused me to miss 3 years of traditional school. These early childhood experiences have taught me to be compassionate to others and to smile despite the circumstance. My dream is to not only find a cure for cancer but to also give others hope and to make them laugh as they go through their journey.

Please help me reach my goal of $6,000. You can help by purchasing a full-page advertisement for $250, ½ page for $150, ¼ page for $100 or patron for $50, which will be published in the KLL Diamond Debonair Souvenir booklet. The deadline for the ad is February 15, 2018. Non-advertisement donations are also appreciated.

Thank you for your support!

Jalen M White
