On November 9th, Jake was in a terrible car accident. He was ejected from the vehicle and suffered a traumatic brain injury, broken ribs, a fractured eye socket, and a broken hip that required emergency surgery. He has been in the Surgical ICU ever since, fighting through each day with incredible strength.

 Jake’s injury is a Grade 2 Diffuse Axonal Injury, a type of brain trauma that takes months of hospitalization, surgeries, and intensive rehab. This week, he showed the first signs of waking up — opening his eyes, following movement, and beginning to breathe more on his own. These small steps are miracles to us, and we celebrate every single one.

 But this will be a long road. Jake will need a tracheostomy, a feeding tube, weeks in the ICU, months in inpatient rehab, and a long recovery after that.

 Jake did not have any Health Insurance and had only $10,000 in auto insurance coverage. His medical bills, daily needs and ongoing care will be an overwhelming burden to his wife who is already taking on the responsibility of maintaining their home, daily needs and two young children.
