MH/LES Chicken Coop Eagle Project

Hello, my name is Jacob Bly.
I am a Boy Scout with Troop 425 and a senior at Mountain House High School. I have been involved in Scouting since the first grade, and I am currently a Life Scout working towards achieving the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. The last requirement to earn this final rank of Eagle Scout is to demonstrate skills of management and leadership by performing a service project that will benefit the community.
For my service project, I plan to construct a chicken coop to restart the Future Farmers of America program at Lammersville School District. The benefits of having an FFA program are that it teaches kids leadership, opens interest for future jobs. The coop would give the teachers and students an additional place for learning activities, with hands-on experience with animals.
To complete this project, I will need to raise approximately $3,000. The chicken run will be 18’ x 19’ and the coop will be 6’ x 12’. I will add automatic doors that will open at dusk and close at dawn to keep the chickens safe. There will be automatic feeders and watering. The fencing will be thick chicken wire that will be dug underground to keep predators out. If all goes well, with help from others in the troop and my peers, I hope to have the chicken coop completed and in use by the end of this school year (2019) before I graduate. Construction will be during spring break the last week of March so I must obtain materials ASAP soon.
I would very much appreciate any monetary contribution you can make towards my chicken coop project. Any amount that you can contribute whether large or small, would be a great help towards paying for the cost of materials for this project. If I’m lucky enough to raise funds beyond the cost of the construction project, any unused proceeds will be donated to Lammersville Elementary School to go towards supplies needed to operate and maintain the chicken coop.
