Hello everyone! I’m Jae and I’m currently in a doctoral program to obtain my Psy.D which is a doctor of psychology to become a licensed psychologist. As many know, school is expensive and until recently, my job that I work full time at, was covering some costs, but has cut their reimbursement to employees by $7,000. Because of this, the reimbursement does not even cover 1 semester for me anymore. I chose this career path because mental health is the most important thing to me and is just as crucial as physical health and I want to help others as much as I possibly can. I have been an advocate towards mental health since I was 17 and never dreamed I’d get this far into my education. I currently work in the field and also was a therapist this summer for an unpaid internship which was a life changing experience that I will never forget. I am a first generation college student on both sides of my family. Getting into this doctoral program was something I’ve dreamed of for a very long time and I was lucky enough to be 1 of 20 who were accepted this year despite hundreds of applicants. The fundraising goal is so high due to the nature of the program and the length being 5 years after my already completed undergraduate and masters degree (yes I’ll be in school forever but it’s so worth it!) I do work full time, but also as many probably know, that only pays for day to day living costs and not full tuition. Anything helps and I thank you so much for reading my story.
