Jade's (NMOSD) fundraiser

My niece Jade, was recently diagnosed with Neuromyeitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMOSD), a cousin to MS. This is a rare relapsing autoimmune disorder that preferentially causes inflammation in the optic nerve and spinal cord. This can be caused due to the environment. Most do not know what in the environment can cause this disorder.
Jade recently graduated high school earlier this year; she graduated early in December. She has never had health issues in the past. She has always been a loving and caring young lady.
Jade realized there was an issue when she started to see blurriness in her left eye. After a couple weeks she could not see out of her left eye. Her eye doctor sent her to the hospital for an MRI. After multiple MRI’s, blood tests, and a spinal tap, the doctors concluded it was Optic Neuritis. She was admitted for eight days. The doctors suggested giving her steroids for the inflammation, and a Plex treatment (Plasma Fusion) to decrease antibodies. Her vision started to come back, but they still were not completely sure what was causing the Optic Neuritis.
Jade’s doctors sent some of her labs to the Mayo Clinic for more testing. During her follow up visits, she was diagnosed with NMOSD. This disorder is not treatable only manageable. She will go to the hospital every six months for the rest of her life for a fusion that will help her manage the disorder.
