Jacob's Backpack Brigade 2021

Donation protected

Hi all! It's 2021, the pandemic has calmed a bit and a new school year is upon us. This is our 9th year of pulling our resources and helping deserving kids at Lemon Road Elementary school get their school year started with all the necessary supplies AND food in their bellies.

For those who are seeing this for the first time.  Our efforts, in conjunction with Idylwood Presbyterian Church and our Falls Church community and surrounding areas,  go 100% to help deserving kids and their families with our pth Annual Jacob’s Backpack Brigade and Power Packs in memory of sweet Jacob Stanley Osman and his brother Eric Nash (shown below with their sister Rachel in much happier times) who lost valiant battles each at the age of 8 to adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD).

Our initial goal is to provide backpacks and all required supplies to more an anticipated 30 kids at Lemon Road Elementary school.  Over the past 8 years we have assisted more than 210 kids - thanks to folks who generously give of their money and their time!  AND...  it doesn't end there.  Any overage we have in funding goes towards the Idylwood Presbyterian Power Pack program which benefits these same kids at Lemon Road as well as kids at Shrevewood.

So... here are the details...

What’s a Backpack Brigade?

It is an opportunity to put smiles on children’s faces!  We will be providing school supplies and support for students at Lemon Road Elementary School who might have difficulty filling their supply needs for the coming school year.  With this small contribution from each of us… we can take that huge piece of stress off these kids and their families as they get ready for the Fall.   The supplies are put into reusable grocery bags and labeled boy/girl and grade level.  This allow the kids to select their own backpack - which is, of course, fun!   Just look at what we were able to do last year!  Each of those grocery bags represents a child!

What's a Power Pack?

Power Packs are a collection of non perishable breakfast, snacks and lunch foods that we collect and assemble to be given to kids so that they will have food over the weekends.  We provide Power Packs to kids at Lemon Road Elementary and Shrevewood Elementary year round.

How can you participate?

DONATE... Our church members, in conjunction with our neighbors,  have managed to meet the needs of these kids for the past 8 years.  However, the number of families in need rises every year and we want to help more kids in more ways.  So, we continue to look for sponsors to help fund this effort.  100% of the funds will go towards assisting families with backpacks, school supplies, school trip fees, PE uniform costs and support of IPC's Powerpack Program.

Donations can be here on the GoFundMe, a check, cash OR supplies. Send me a note and I can give you drop off details.

Many many thanks for your consideration in making a donation to our efforts.  No amount is too small.

In fact... did you know? ONE PENCIL holds enough graphite to draw a line about 35 miles long or to write roughly 45,000 words - now, that's a lot of words!

ASSEMBLE... This year, unlike last, we will once again have an assembly day! We will keep it safe with masks and a space that will allow for healthy distancing. But, we will gather!

SHARE... You can also contribute by just sharing this post!

We know that our angels Jacob and Eric are proud of this effort and would like to see us continuing to aim for the stars!
