Jacob Jones Medical Relief Fund

At 8:00AM on a quiet Monday morning, Jacob Jones was waking up for another typical day in the life of a college student, an avid skier, one qualified enough to be a certified ski patrol member.  As any typical 20-something he asked for “10 more minutes”.  In those 10 minutes a quiet, typical life changed.

With what doctor’s think may have been a condition called Wolf Parkinson White Syndrome, Jacob’s heart stopped.  The first guardian angel in this story was his mom Dorel.  Without any regard for her own rehab issues she jumped into action making effective use of her CPR training and calling for emergency services.  Through her actions and the work of many personnel from the Hopewell Emergency Medical Services, they were successful in bringing Jacob back.  But Jacob’s medical issues and situation still had a long troublesome road ahead.

He was rushed to Capital Heath where he was placed on a ventilator and in a hypothermic condition, a procedure which allows the body to slow down metabolism and heal faster.  He then contracted pneumonia which was treated with additional antibiotics.   Through all this, mom Dorel, dad Chris and younger brother Marcus stayed close to his side.  Family, friends and co-workers have also added their prayers and best wishes for Jake and his family.

After a few touch and go days, Capital was able to stabilize Jacob and determined that he needed more specialized treatment and Jacob was air lifted to Cooper University Hospital where additional tests for his heart and neurological condition continued.  Mom and dad temporarily relocated to a hotel to have a closer base while they spent all of their time by Jacob’s side.

Cooper recommended a procedure called ablation to treat what may have been the root cause of his heart stopping.  To perform the procedure and continue with Jacob’s rehab he has been transferred to UPenn.  As Dorel and Chris have both posted on Facebook, Jacob is a fighter and they are convinced that he will get better and hopefully get back to his normal quiet life.

Besides all our prayers and best wishes for Jake, we would like to do something to help the family which will be facing a long road for recovery and an unbelievably
mounting financial burden.  We’re establishing this GoFundMe page so that you and all their friends can help support them in this very trying time. While Jacob’s fighting spirit will help him recover, you can help the entire Jones family by contributing whatever you can.
