Edit: 10PM 10/18, Thank you so much to everyone who has donated, especially the fellow fans of Chapo Trap House, Virgil Texas, and Felix Biederman who put us at the $3,000 mark to cover our many expenses. Because of this incredible news, we're literally going to go to work tomorrow at 3am and invite more coworkers to come with us on this trip. We raised the goal to $4k so that we can bring as many Teamsters as possible. Thanks again!
Hey sisters and brothers -
We're a group of Teamsters from Jacksonville, FL trying to make our union strong and build a fighting working class movement in the United States. All of us are rank-and-file workers at UPS. Some are elected shop stewards. But as part-timers who get paid way too little for our labor, we need your help.
Next year, the Teamsters-UPS contract will come up for re-negotiation. This is the single largest union contract in the U.S. private sector. UPS management attacked our health insurance five years ago, and this year, they intend to further erode our wages, benefits and working conditions.
The pressure is on – Amazon is expanding their non-union operations and now aim to compete with UPS and FedEx directly. The Teamsters need to organize Amazon workers in order to secure a better future for workers across this country. Unfortunately we don’t have the union leadership at the top with the vision to organize Amazon.
That's why we’re going to the Teamsters for a Democratic Union (TDU) convention on October 27th in Chicago, IL. Teamsters from all around the country will get together to plan next steps in this contract campaign and strategies to organize in the future. We want to be a part of this, and we need your help to make it happen.
Last year, we worked hard on the Teamsters United campaign and won the Southern Region in the Teamsters international union election. We have young, visionary union leaders in Jacksonville ready to be a part of the next year’s UPS contract battle, and we want to bring new Teamsters to Chicago in order to develop their skills as well.
But with convention costs, hotel rooms, and airfare, it's damn near impossible for us to make the trip across the country on our own.
That's why we need your help. Every little bit you can contribute will be put to good use to bring as many Jacksonville Teamsters as we can afford to the Teamsters for a Democratic Union convention in Chicago.
