Jackson’s EPM Treatment & Recovery
When you know something’s not right, listen to that intuition. It was hard to pinpoint but I knew something was not right, so I took Jackson to Steinbeck…
On Thursday, his blood tests and CSF (spinal tap) results came back testing positive for Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis (EPM).
A bit about EPM - https://aaep.org/horsehealth/epm-understanding-debilitating-disease
The only option is to treat it, and hope for the best.
I usually would not ask for help, but Jackson is the peanut buttery to my jelly, I want to do everything I can to treat him and give him the best chance at recovery. And I cannot do it alone.
The testing was expensive, and the treatment is going to be expensive... especially since we’re on the protocol for round one of treatment, a retest, and second round.
...we will be treating with Marquis.
Each round of treatment medication will be roughly $1500.
(The hospital visits for testing and diagnostic work are nearing 3k.)
