Jackson Zeus T1D Medical Bills

Hello everyone!
Gloria here,
I am starting this gofundme for my sister and her son, who was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes about two weeks ago, after experiencing Diabetic Ketoacidosis, which I think is a medical term for Extremely Scary Sickness that happened very fast, and resulted in two ambulance rides and a hospital stay.


Thankfully because all the wonderful medical professionals did everything right along the way, Jackson is home and recovering quickly!

However this is a big adjustment, requires around the clock care by Chelsea, and a lot of expensive doodads that need to be replaced frequently! Mama and J are having to learn a whole new language and way of being, and navigating a whole world of disputing hospital bills. It is unclear right now what is and isn't covered by insurance, and there is no time to wait to get Jackson what he needs to stay alive and healthy.

Here is a snapshot of medical expenses so far;

hospital and ambulance bills $$$$$
Omnipod insulin pump $$$$
cost per sensor and a new sensor every 3 days
Dexcom CGM system initial cost $$$$, and then additional cost every 10 days
Insulin cost/month

As well as driving expenses to follow up appointments, at least 1 hour away and often more, Chelsea being unable to work away from home, due to Jackson needing 24/7 care for a while as they figure everything out, and him unable to attend school until we have some clarity around COVID safety, as Jackson is now considered high risk.

I would love to be able also to cover the expense of saving up for him to have a service dog within the next year, for emotional support and also because (and this is amazing) dogs can be trained to detect low blood sugar!

We are extremely grateful for any and all support, especially the kind words and offers of meals and information from folks that have experience with T1D.

Thank you for reading, sharing, and helping my sister through this rough time. Today is my nephew's 8th birthday and I can't think of a better gift than making sure he is taken care of, and taking even just some of the weight of this off my sister's shoulders.
