Throughout history, the one thing that separated humans from the rest of the animal population is the written word. Frozen yogurt, disposable diapers, NBA basketball and genealogy websites also separate us from the animal population, but the written word is definitely top 5. Through this Go Fund Me, I ask for help bringing the written word to the masses.
As conceited as that sounds, I do want to enter the ranks of a "real" writer. I already work on a blog called Losing the Internets that is consistently read by 37 people and over 2,100 Russian SPAM bots. I also have several unpublished short stories and parts of two novels completed. Good....questionable...but completed.
After talking to a few experienced writers, it takes over $2,000 just to make a real push into the literary world. This includes moving my blog to a paid hosting site with its own domain; travel to two writer's conferences where I can show my stuff to real editors and agents; and the now mandatory self-promotion through social media that is apparently required.
Several friends and readers suggested I crowdsource this expense, as I do not currently possess the necessary funds. Reasons include medical bills and the company I worked for going bankrupt, but it's not happening on my own. So, I look to the world to help me out and help me start this adventure.
And check the reward levels, as there is something for everyone. Need some marketing help -- you got it. How about a fake doctor's note getting you out of that office retreat? As long as it's under 1000 words. Even $1 will get you a personalized thank you email. It's the least I can do for such faith in me.
So, thank you in advance for your financial help. Even if you don't give, that you for reading Losing the Internets. Even if you don't give or read, thank you for something. I don't know what yet, but I'm sure it'll come up.
