SOS the Phoenix helping Jack Hernon rise from the ashes of misfortune!!!

Jack needs help to overcome the challenges he's facing due to the Pandemic, blown head gasket and apt. renovations .

The pandemic has been hard for everyone but it hits seniors with a fixed income disproportionately.
Because of their higher risk for infection many employers are uncomfortable hiring them and for artists, with galleries and other venues closed or operating at reduced capacity the opportunities to sell their work are drastically reduced.
Most responsible people can get by for a while on their back up savings but when things happen to generate unplanned expenses, many folks including Jack, have found themselves between a rock and a hard place.

Since September, Jack has lost his car (blown head gasket resulting in a need for a new vehicle or total engine replacement) and been informed that soon, he will be required to move out of the apartment where he has lived for 13 years in order to make way for renovations by the new property owner. Once those renovations are complete, according to the letter from the new management, he may reapply as a tenant with a rent increase over 50% above his current lease.

This means he would incur moving and storage expenses twice in a short period of time plus the need for temporary lodging for himself putting him out of his workplace which is his home studio.
The artists at the Delurk Collective have worked with Jack to help him meet these challenges, Jack contacted Senior Services, the Housing Authority of Winston-Salem, the United Way, and many other advocacy groups for seniors to no avail.

So now we are launching this GoFundMe on his behalf on Black Friday, 2020.

The money raised will give him the flexibility to resolve his automobile crisis as well as the financial stability to qualify for another apartment his Social Security alone is not enough to qualify him for a one-bedroom apartment at the current market rate in Winston Salem. Jack’s greatest asset is his art. In addition to this GoFundMe page you can also buy his artwork at Delurk Gallery, at Liberty Arts Coffee House, whatever you are most comfortable doing to help an artist who has been an active contributing member of Winston-Salem‘s art community for almost 30 years…

More about Jack

Jack has always been here for us and now we are here for him. Making a donation will not only fill Jack with gratitude and hope but it will also help all of the artists at Delurk as we all need one another to keep our art community thriving through these uncertain times.

Sincerely,
the artists of the Delurk collective.
