Fund My School
Donation protected
Freeport Middle School, in an attempt to raise money for field trips, has partnered with the for-profit company Great American Opportunities (GAO). Much of the money raised by the fundraiser goes directly to the pockets of GAO, instead of kids it was meant for. GoFundMe is a much more effective way to raise money. While GAO takes 60% of the proceeds, GoFundMe only takes a 2.9% cut of the money. That means that giving our school $10 through the GoFundMe page is like buying $25 worth of magazines. On the topic of magazines, who sells the magazines? Us, the student body. We walk door-to-door, motivated by prizes that can be found online for a few dollars, cajole innocent neighbors into forking over their hard earned money to a multimillion dollar company. Although you may have thought that it was a good idea to support Freeport schools through the magazine drive, there are clearly more effective ways to do so. Please consider donating to our school.
