Cataract Project: Gift of Vision

Donation protected
December 24, 2014   When I read the book< "Second Suns" by David Relin, I saw the remarkable way we can impact the world one person at a time. Each patient in the story was suffering from blindness due to cataracts, a condition that is very treatable. With no surgery available to them, the people in the Himalayas were unable to lead a normal life. Yet for just $25 per surgery, Dr. Geoffrey Tabin and Dr. Sanduk Ruit have performed thousands of surgeries. Not only that, they have traveled the world to teach ohter surgeons how to perform this cataract surgery that can be done in a fractionh of the time of  trtaditional methods. Their work in Nepal is nothing short of awe-inspiring.

I am legally blind so I can appreciate good eyesight. But I can see enough to bike...so I will be biking the Natchez Trace in May 2015 to raise funds for the Himalayan Cataract Project.  I will post photos and stories along the way of the 444 mile route. As nuch as this will be a huge challenge for me, I challenge you to open your hearts at Christmas to help end blindness throughout the world. $10,000 would give 400 people vision!! How many do you want ot help? Instead of just filling your holiday with store-bought gifts, find out how great it feels to give soemthing bigger. Wishing you and your family a very happy holiday!
