Diesel's Surgery

Donation protected
This is the story of our beloved furbaby, Diesel.  Long story short, Diesel is a 4-year old rescued pit bull that started life at a disadvantage.  Abused and neglected, we decided that regardless of him being a good fit for us personality-wise, we weren't leaving without him.  This puppy deserved a chance and a good home.

Along the way, Diesel has lived a life filled with an abundance of love, but as you may expect, the second-look and fearful stare. My husband and I became advocates of the bully breed and determined to be their voice. One way we have done this is through sharing his gentle nature, humor, and personality on Instagram. The response has been and still is amazing and brings so much joy to our lives. When someone lets us know a Diesel post positively impacted their day, we realize how important he is to so many people, not just us.

We have now brought you up to date with Diesel, except for the emotional part. Several weeks ago he began having minor breathing difficulties, and because he is an allergy-dog, we assumed it was seasonal. When his breathing did not improve, we decided to seek the advice of a Veterinarian and proceed with bloodwork and x-rays. The results of his x-ray showed some fluid build up around his lungs on one side of the chest. This prompted the Vet to refer us to a specialist for an ultrasound of his chest and abdomen. The specialist discovered a blockage in a pathway leading to the heart but was unsure what is causing it. He decided to do a chest tap and was able to remove 500ml of fluid to offer some relief and allow him to breathe more comfortably. He then referred Diesel to yet another specialist for a CT scan and a consult with a surgeon.

After the testing, Diesel was diagnosed with Chylothorax, which requires surgery to sustain his life. The surgery is extensive and requires two separate incisions in his chest. One part of the operation removes the faulty pericardial sac around the heart. It comes as no surprise that this procedure will be costly, but necessary for Diesel to live a long, healthy life. We have invested close to $5,000 in the past two weeks just to get a diagnosis. We now need to reach out to family, friends, pet lovers and Instagram family for your help. The operation is estimated to cost $8,000. Anything will help us at this time, and if you aren't able to give financially, please share with friends and followers to help spread the word. We are forever grateful for your love and support; it has provided comfort during this very difficult time.
