Service dog for Lynsie

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read this story.  My name is Jaclyn, and my 11 year old  daughter Lynsie was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on 11/11/14.  To help you understand, this is a form of diabetes that is found in young children and they are always insulin dependent.  Patients are required to check their blood sugars several times a day in addition to maintaining their blood sugars with injectable insulin.  As most everyone knows the long term issues for diabetics are kidney failure, blindness, and neuropathy, but few people understand the immediate and lifethreatning issue is hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), which can result in a seizure, coma, and death.  These low blood sugar episodes are most common at night, and therefore we (myself and my husband) are learning to sleep with one eye open.  During a trip to the emergency room last Thursday evening, we discovered that in addition to type 1 diabetes, Lynsie also suffers from a cardiac condition that has remained unnoticed, but likely due to the stress on her body from trying to regulate her sugars she is becoming symptomatic.  Her nurse mentioned Diabetic Service Dogs, which can detect high and low sugar levels and alert their diabetics or family members (even at night).  And we were instantly intrigued.  After a lot of internet research, I have found an organiztion called Alert Service Dogs, and they fit our needs perfectly!!! They wont require that Lynsie get rid of her current dog (Dixie), and they specialize in diabetic service dogs.  For the first time since 11/11/14, our little girl is excited about something, and that makes our hearts soar!!! As you can imagine, service dogs arent free and dont come cheep, and this leads us to our request.  If you should find it in your heart and feel called to donate to our cause to obtain a Diabetic Alert Dog (DAD) for Lynsie, please know that your kindness will be felt in an unmeasureable way.  Not only do these awesome canines alert patient and family members to life threatening blood sugar changes, but I have found testimonials that they keep their diabetics sugars so thightly controled that the long term effects of diabetes are reduced greatly.  Id like to thank you, on behalf of myself, my husband, and most of all our little girl for reading our story, donating, or spreading the word of our need.
