On our trip, we will build a metal home for Ursula and her 6 children. Ursula was abandoned by her husband who was an alcoholic, and eventually passed away. Their home and land were taken away due to debt he left them. She works in the local fields picking strawberries and makes less than $2 a day. Two of her children work in the fields as well to try and help feed their family. The home will have a concrete floor and we are raising funds to cover the following items:House (20'x20' Metal) - $2300
ONIL Stove - $200
Bunk Beds for 6 people (2 @ $200) - $400
Wardrobe dresser - $165
Pila (Sink) - $60
Bathroom - $300
Table/chairs - $150
Utensils/Pots/Pans - $50
We will also be hosting a wheelchair distribution where 20 people will receive a wheelchair and the gift of mobility. Many of the disabled are left alone in the home due to lack of mobility. They develop bed sores, which often times result in their death.
20 wheelchairs - $125 each
We will also be installing 4 additional ONIL wood burning stoves for families. Most families cook over open fires in their home. The smoke causes eye and lung problems. Many times, children fall into the open fires causing disability.
4 stoves - $200 each
Finally, we will be visiting with families developing relationships and meeting needs. These families cannot afford to feed their children. We will give each family we visit a bag that contains corn, beans, rice and other staples. This bag will sustain the family for at least 2 weeks:
15 bags - $50 each
None of the money we raise will go towards personal expenses for team members. Each person is responsible for paying for their own travel and personal fees. 100% of our funds raised will go to the projects listed above.
Please help us in our efforts to work with the disabled in Guatemala. Each one of them is valued by God and needs our help.
