"I believe the world is one big family and we need to help each other."

Early in the morning on Dec. 21, a hit-and-run drunk driver plowed into our neighbors Danielle and Chell as they were getting out of their parked car.  Chell tried to push Danielle out of the way just before impact, and likely saved her life.

Unaware that people had been injured, we went around the corner to see whose car had been hit, only to find our friends and neighbors pleading for help, badly injured in the street. These women are always kind and giving. They are both veterans and the type of people who would take the shirt off their own backs to help another.

Danielle is a mail carrier.  She sustained a concussion and serious knee injuries, and had surgery on her knee on 12/24.  Chell is a construction worker and usually stands for 10 hours a day on the job.  She’s undergone 2 surgeries on her leg so far.  They both remain hospitalized, and doctors are saying it could be 6-9 months before Chell is back on her feet.  Danielle is also facing an extended recovery time.

As you can imagine, this is financially devastating, especially for two single mothers. We don’t have a set financial goal.  We just know that they’re facing big expenses to get their lives back, and we really want to find a way to help them with that.  They’re both strong, independent, hard-working women, with good sons who are 16 and 10.

Danielle and Chell have been friends since childhood, and it’s a real tragedy that two life-long friends are both so injured that they can’t help each other right now.  They truly are innocent victims.  It wasn’t easy to convince them to let us ask the public for help!  There’s no doubt that when they’re able, they’ll “pay it forward”.

Family, friends and neighbors are organizing to help them when they’re released from the hospital, but we don’t have the resources to help with the financial burdens they face.  On top of their medical expenses, they have monthly bills to pay even though they won’t be able to work until they recover.  We don’t want them to worry about losing their homes or providing for their boys as they’re recovering from their physical injuries.

We’re happy to provide updates,  Danielle and Chell need help until they recover enough to get back to work.  And then they will, because that’s the kind of women they are.

Thank you for reading, and if you choose to help, we very much appreciate it.  These are two good women doing everything right, and a drunk driver almost took it all away from them.  We hope you’ll agree that they deserve some assistance to get back on their feet.
