Want to make a difference in the life of a child? Laptops to Lesotho is raising money to purchase 50 Kindle Fires and cases, and any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to children who have so little.
More information about Laptops to Lesotho Inc. (L2l): The mission of Laptops to Lesotho is to improve educational opportunities for children in rural Lesotho, Africa by providing access to laptop computers and the SolarSPELL educational library. L2L has been in existence since 2009 and is currently working in the village of Kokobe using XO laptop computers. Our primary goal is to give each and every primary school-age child in the community access to laptops. Our second goal is to make this a community-run program. This idea was started by people in the community, and we want to serve merely as facilitators to help them achieve their goal. To this end, our team includes one to two staff members from each school who serve as project leaders and who manage on-the-ground operations. We work with the community throughout the entire process to ensure their continued, long-term participation. We mentor and train selected individuals in leadership, communication skills, and project management. Our plan is that within 2-3 years of receiving computers, the leaders at each school take over and run the project at their school all on their own. We are partnering with Arizona State University and their SolarSPELL Educational Library. We will be phasing out the XO laptops and providing the students with Kindle Fires to access the rugged, portable, solar-powered digitized library which includes an offline digital hotspot, designed to simulate an online experience. We would like this to be our pilot project and would like to expand to 30+ schools. We hope that these tablets
will provide an avenue for growth and improvement in individual lives and in the community as a whole. We believe that truly successful solutions to the multitude of problems facing the people of Lesotho will come only when the Basotho devise and embrace solutions as their own. The best way to prepare them for that is through education and access to information, and the best time to reach.
We will be raising additional funds to build a dedicated classroom/computer lab/library, work with ASU and the SolarSPELL project on training and support.
