Michael's Medical Fund

Our nephew Michael Edman, who is 28 years old flipped his dirt bike on July 2nd and broke his back. He was airlifted from Grand Rapids to a Duluth hospital. The big scare was that he may have severed his spine and could be paralyzed. The doctors said he was in pretty bad shape. The MRI showed he has a burst fracture in his T12 area. Three surgeons were flown into Duluth to perform an emergency surgery to determine the extent of the damage, repair his back, and relieve the swelling around his spine. The surgery was about 8 hours and doctors were happy with the results. Since then he has had complications with blood clots in both lungs and one leg. They had to do another emergency surgery to add filters in his arteries to prevent the blood clots from moving and getting to his heart. Then go in the incision made during surgery of his back to drain some fluid since the swelling could severe his spine. Doctors indicate the next few days are critical.

Last update is that his hemoglobin is dropping and they may need to do another surgery if it continues.

Michael just married just over a month ago and they found out they have a baby on the way. When he pulls through this the road to recovery will be very long.  With a few months in the hospital and up to a year to fully recover.

Since Michael is not able to work for quite some time,  Mary missing many days, and the large medical bills that are piling up we decided to start a GoFundMe account to try and ask for help.
