Brian's Medical and expenses

Brian Smith, my son, was in a  bad accident on the 16th of December.  He was hit broadside in a little suzuki.  The surgeon told his wife, Renee, that he would probably not survive the surgery.  His organs and stomach were pushed up and out of position.  His stomach was in his chest cavity beside his heart.  His femur was broken as was all but two of his ribs.  His pelvis and scapula are also broken.

But the Lord was with him because when the surgeon got inside most of his organs were just bruised not complete mush as he had expected.  His kidney has two tears in it as does his diaphragm.  His left lung had deflated but when they scoped it there were no punctures or new bleeding.  All his organs are badly bruised and will heal eventually but it will take time.

They are keeping him heavily sedated because he is in so much pain.  He is on a ventilator.  They are worried about pneumonia so they clean out his lung every day and do cultures and luckily nothing dangerous is growing. They even brush his teeth twice a day to cut down on bacteria.  (He hates this even heavily sedated.)  His kidney function is not where it should be with the trauma and tears but is moving in the right direction.  They do Body and Lung CT scans daily and the doctors all tell Renee that he is moving in the right direction

His family had just moved to Hawaii in late September to make a new start.  They got jobs immediately and were doing great.  They used all their money to make the move so there are no reserves.   He  has health insurance but he will hit the ceiling in no time at all and will need care outside the hospital.  Renee will not leave his side so she is not working.  I will go out when he gets home from the hospital even though it is very hard not to go now.  Renee would rather I wait til he gets home so she can work and someone will be there for him.

Doctors do not know when he will be released.  So many things have to happen.  They will take the tubes out as soon as they can because it will help his lung function.  As it is he is in so much pain  when they try to reduce pain meds he breathes very shallow and fast which causes all the alarms to go off his ventilator machine.

Renee keeps me updated constantly and all the signs show improvement  but it will be a long long road to recovery.  He is a very strong man.  In fact even tho he is out of it with the pain meds they have to get several people to hold him down when they change his bandages.  They keep asking Renee what he did for a living because he is so strong as hurt as he is and on so much pain medication.

Please pray for Brian for fast and complete Healing.  Pray for his wife, Renee, to give here the strength and good health to deal with all she has to deal with.  God has been with Brian all along or he would have been dead for sure   A surgeon will not tell a wife that her husband probably will not make it unless he is pretty sure.   The surgeon tells Renee what a miracle it is that he is alive.  Even the EMT's who brought him in came to see the miracle that God has performed.

SO I know it is the holiday season but please help if you can.  Every little bit helps.. AND PRAY PRAY PRAY.

Thank you so much from a grateful mother.
