Marty's Hospital and Medical Bills

As some of you may know, in 2008 I was seriously injured in a car accident. I suffered massive head trauma and was put in a drug-induced coma for 11 days during which I would need facial reconstructive surgery. I had a lengthy stay in Christiana Hospital and then went on to Bryn Mawr and Wilmington hospital for further rehabilitation. This was a very trying time for my family and I. But I was able to make a solid recovery. About a year later my sister awoke to me having my first seizure in the middle of the night. I had no idea the ability to experience seizures after head trauma can lay dormant in your system for years. I was put on anti-seizure medicine and remained seizure free for nearly eight years.

Then a couple of weeks ago, my roommate witnessed me having another seizure and called an ambulance. When I was being taken back for a CAT scan, I had yet another seizure. The seizures were so violent that my organs were taxed and doctors were concerned about the enzyme levels in my kidneys. I was forced to stay in the hospital all week. The scary thing about head trauma is you never really know what issues may surface years later. Just when I thought I was healthy and moving further away from the physical and emotional toll the accident had taken on my body, I was faced with another setback. Doctors said the seizures were so violent it was as if I had completed a triathlon in a mere five minutes. My limbs felt like dead weight and when I finally could move them, my muscles ached like nothing I have ever felt before. It was difficult to eat anything, as I had bitten my tongue so hard it was too painful to chew.

A few days ago I was discharged and have been prescribed a higher dosage of anti seizure medicine and been ordered to hydrate frequently, as this flushes the enzymes out of my kidneys keeping them to an appropriate level. However, the high deductible from insurance for hospital bills, ambulance rides, lab work and follow-up doctors appointments makes it almost impossible to pay off. I would greatly appreciate help in any amount.

Thank you for your help. And a huge thank you to my family and friends. It's amazing what a strong support system will help you overcome.
