Caring Professionals

This is a photo of my daughter Anna with some of the amazing women who have supported her to live as independently as possible, in spite of her disabilities. These are passionate women who believe in the value of what they do.

Recently, one of the women had an emergency surgery and hospitalization. It was successful, but now she is consumed with worry as to how she will come up with the exorbitant co-pay she owes the hospital. 

Unfortunately, the state system that hires these skilled women as Direct Support Professionals does not provide anything approaching professional wages or benefits. 

We are in the long process of legislative advocacy to increase the shamefully low wages that personal attendants and caregivers receive. 

But urgent needs like this one can't wait for politics.

My goal is to raise $3000 to help with her insurance co-pay. The full co-pay is twice that, so if anything above the goal is raised, it will go to the same good cause. If you don't wish to donate online, you can do it by sending a check to me. Just ask and I'll tell you how.
