I am writing this on my brother, Jonathan Carlson's, behalf.
In July of 2012 he noticed that his arms and hands were numb and painful when he woke up. This continued throughout the day. After seeing his doctor to discuss his concerns, he was told that he had a cervical disc issue. While seeking treatment for this condition, the numbness and pain started in his legs as well. It was then discovered that he had disc issues in his lower spine. After further symptoms arose and testing by several doctors, he was also diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel, Sleep Apnea, Depression, Tennis Elbow and Fibromyalgia.
Due to all of his compounded medical issues, it was ubruptly determined in January 2014 that he was no longer able to fulfill his duties as an Aircraft Mechanic with the Federal Government. This was a position he held for over 10 years. In July of 2014, he was permanently removed from his civilian career. He also has 16 years of Military service accumulated through active duty Air Force, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserves. In October 2012, he was put into a medical hold with the Air Force Reserves. This resulted in him not being allowed to participate in his regular weekend duties, thus halting his accredited time towards retirement.
After being removed from both positions, he applied for unemployment. He was denied unemployment because of his medical conditions. He then applied for Disability through the Federal Employment Retirement Services and Social Security. He is still waiting to find out if they will be approved and has been told it would most likely take another 6to 7 months to be decided. Additionally he is also awaiting a decision for his military retirement as well.
Jonathan is a loving single parent of two boys, 9 and 15 years old, who are his world. They are currently receiving assistance through the state for food and medical needs. However, he is in need of financial help to pay for monthly living expenses while he waits for the decisions of other benefits. He has currently drained his retirement account but has recieved some assistance in the interim from the County VA office.
My brother Jonathan needs our help in his and his family's need. He has always tried to help others in anyway he could and so it is difficult for himself to ask for help. I am asking to try and secure funds to cover the next 6 months of rent and utilities until he can get back on his feet. Anything that you can contribute would be greatly appreciated.
