There are no words to describe the despair we felt when we received our son Austin’s diagnosis. Austin has Mucopolysaccharidosis III (MPS-III), a rare disease with no cure and very little research. Not only will Austin have little chance of survival past his teen years, his health will slowly decline leaving him in a wheelchair with increasingly challenging behavior and medical problems. The MPS III Society is attempting to focus attention on the children and their families that suffer from the disease in hopes of generating research to find a cure. But in the meantime, our family is struggling to find the money to pay for his special care needs. Currently, Austin’s life debilitating disease is not financially supported by social security or medicaid.
Austin is a super sweet and affectionate little boy who loves to sing and play with other kids. But he’s a big guy who doesn’t know his own strength so the kids at the conventional childcare avoided him and he was asked to leave. The high cost of special needs childcare for Austin and his medical expenses have far exceeded our income. Adding to our challenges, just last week, our second car – an old 2005 clunker – broke down, which is a huge problem for us. We need two cars to get to our jobs and to get Austin to the special needs school.
Your financial support will help us find new transportation and help cover the increasing costs of his care – which will only continue to escalate. Please help us ensure that Austin gets the care he needs and can enjoy being a little boy with other children like himself in a special needs care facility.
