I know I'm far from the only person concerned about the direction politics in Canada is headed. In the last Canadian Federal Election I created this online comic about pressing political issues, which was shared on Facebook more than 44,000 times and which reached a million viewers in its first week.
At the time, I was naive enough to imagine that was as bad as things could get, but after rewarding the first government in Canadian history to be found in contempt of Parliament with even more power, politics in Canada have become even more divisive and dysfunctional. I've been focussing on raising awareness of a broad range of current issues through social media since. You can see many examples here:
The upcoming election in 2015 is a pivotal one. Climate change, runaway inequality, civil rights issues, and more escalate daily. I'm full of ideas for approaching the next Canadian election with substantive arguments about real issues that put the policies of the parties side by side for straightforward comparison. I want to try to inject some sanity and reason into the political discussion. The downside is that this represents a huge investment in time, and it's going to be hard to give it the full attention I feel it needs atop all of the other necessities of paying bills and being a full time dad. So I'm asking if some of you who follow my work online might consider dropping me a few bucks to help me throw myself full time during the next federal election into bringing down the Harper regime, and I'd be incredibly grateful.
