Cassie's YWAm Adventure

How did my mission start: When I was in high school, a close friend went on a missions trip with an organization called Youth with a Mission (YWAM). For 6 months, she travelled all over the world, volunteering in medical centers and telling people about God. I remember hearing about her adventures, how much she had learned, and the fire that God had ignited in her, and I wanted to experience that same thing. However, life caught up with me and I put off my adventure with YWAM to a later date. I went to school and started my first years of teaching,  but I kept thinking about doing a project overseas. Then, in 2013, I started to realize that God was trying to talk to me about maybe doing something overseas while I had the chance. After talking to a few mentors, I decided to research some missionary options and YWAM came up again.

After much research, I decided to join a Discipleship Training School with YWAM Derby, UK starting in September of 2014. Their focus was in Urban Missions and it was an extended length which would allow me to experience ministry while I was learning. I was able to work with the Roma community volunteering for a youth camp at local church, hosting a friendship lunch with Muslim ladies from our neighborhood, running an afterschool craft class at a local elementary school, and running a kids club at a local church. For the outreach portion of my DTS, I was in Ukrain, mainly working alongside ministry in the Kyiv base, but also partnering with the Vinnitsya  base in orphanages in Western Ukraine, and running a youth camp outside of Kyiv.  It was an amazing year, filled with growth, renewal, and change.

What is YWAM: Youth with a Mission is a world wide missions organization that is devoted to knowing God and making him known. Currently, YWAM stretches across 180 countries, all focused on spreading the amazing news of Jesus Christ. If you would like to know more about YWAM, you can find more information at ywam.org

What NOW: Through out my year in Derby and Kyiv, I have realized what a burden God has placed on me for those who are in need of his healing. I have always felt compassion for those who struggle with deep hurts, and this past year, I started to realize how I wanted to counsel those I came in contact with. I had heard of a school that YWAM hosts, training people in biblical counseling. As the year progressed, I became more and more interested in receiving training for mission counseling. After a few people (who had no contact with eachother) mentioned the counseling program (called Foundations in Counseling Ministry - FCM) and how I should check it out as a next step, I started to get in contact with bases in YWAM that provide that training. And after much prayer and counsel, I have applied for the FCM at YWAM Salem

What is a FCM: The Foundations for Counseling Ministry School  is a 6 month long school, introducing students to the amazing world of biblical counseling. It consists of 2 phases, a 3 month long lecture phase in Salem where I will receive my training, and a 3 month long outreach phase where I will travel to another YWAM base to provide counseling to the YWAMers and outreaches that they have on base. At this point, my outreach phase is unkown, but I will keep you updated as the time progresses. I will need $5500 before the school starts.
