Road to Stability & Gaining Custody

This fundraiser is one I am doing for my friend Katie. She is too proud to start one for herself, but I feel compelled to help her regain custody of her 10 month old son Kevin and to establish the stability they both need and deserve!
Like many in the world (myself included) Katie has battled depression and anxiety as well as substance abuse during her life. She recently SUCCESSFULLY completed a residential treatment program! She is not only sober, but motivated for a lifetime of recovery! Katie has worked very hard and has much to be proud of, but custody of her son and seeking stability is something she is working on now.
Several months ago Katie’s husband filed for temporary custody of their son and also for divorce. Her husband was granted temporary custody and given decision making around visitation. She is only allowed to see her son once a week for a simple hour. Her son NEEDS more time with his mommy! Despite the fact she is sober, engaged in therapy, seeking resources and actively looking for employment, her son’s father refuses to give her more visitation time. Katie needs an attorney to help fight for not only visitation but for her rights in this divorce and the rights of her son!
Because she was a stay at home wife and mother, Katie depended on her husband financially. He worked outside the home; she did not. Katie has none of the family belongings or money. He has obtained an attorney to help him in court but she is unable to. Katie has little money, no place to live and as I said above, just recently got out of a treatment program.
Katie is incredibly motivated to get her life on the right track and to be the best parent she can to her young son. She is committed to her recovery and committed to providing a safe, stable and nurturing environment for her baby boy. She has many things stacked against her and just needs some financial help to start. Any donation you are able to give, big or small, will be appreciated in more ways than you can imagine.
