Single Dad Facing Eviction

I lost the job I had for 15 years as a freelance computer programmer because my client has fallen on hard times. I'm now in danger of being evicted from my little studio apartment. I'm a single Dad with two wonderful boys who need me and I don’t want to let them down.

I'm at a roadblock. I have a back injury that doesn't allow me to sit upright and my knees have an injury that doesn't allow me to stand or walk. The job I had for the last 15 years was work at home where I have a supine setup to work.

I've been searching for more freelance work but at 55, the younger and or offshore competition keeps getting all the jobs I apply for. I have no money left. I’m not eligible for unemployment compensation because I was an independent contractor, not an employee. In desperation, I found a temporary, minimum wage, part-time job from a friend that accommodated my physical needs and helped cover the rent for November and December. That's over now. I have no savings left, my 25 year old car is broken down, seems to be unrepairable and I don’t have any more money to try to fix it again, let alone get a new one. I love to commute by bicycle but I have injuries to my knees preventing that. I have no car to drive, I can't cycle, I can't sit, I can't walk. That was workable until I lost my income. I have several ideas and projects to generate income but they require time and money, both of which I'm all the way out of.

I'm applying for aid and disability but that will take many weeks or even months for approval and it won't cover enough. In the meantime, I need to pay for rent, food, utilities, and a way to get around.

I've always been a loving, caring and hardworking person my whole life. I'm reaching out to people who might be able to help me through this scary financial and health crisis. I don’t want to be homeless. With your help, I can get through the next couple months until I can get back on my feet. Thank you for anything you can do.
