Our Little Fighter Miranda

Donation protected
Where do we begin? Our lil Miranda Ellen Drake (Randi Bear) was born 10/2/14 at 1:03pm weighing 6lbs 11oz. She immediately came into this world full of life and love. Everyone was overwhelmed with relief that this tiny miracle baby came out beautiful, healthy, and with a strong beating heart, as she was carefully monitored throughout Barbara’s pregnancy. At 20 weeks gestation she was diagnosed with VSD, Ventricular Septal Defect. Since the diagnosis, she was carefully monitored and labeled as high risk pregnancy.  This included LOTS of doctor/pediatric/cardiologist visits, along with lots of tests, MRIs and echocardiograms.  She had a hole in her heart and we didn’t know how she would respond once she was out of her comfy, cozy shelter of her beautiful mother. Little Miranda came out fierce as ever proving she indeed can overcome her very first obstacle in life. The next few days, however, things took a dramatic turn for the worse. Not only was Miranda’s hole in her heart still there, they also found a second one in her tiny beating heart; She had an ASD and VSD. This lead Miranda’s tiny heart and body to work excessively hard each day to keep her blood flowing through her body. This resulted in multiple hospital stays, loss of weight, and for her to be put on a feeding tube. She didn’t even have the strength to stay up for more than a few minutes a day or the strength to cry.

The doctors informed them that she would have to have open heart surgery to repair and mend the tiny holes. As a parent myself, I could not even begin to imagine the feeling you feel when you are told your baby will need Open Heart Surgery. This is the feeling of helplessness at it greatest.

Miranda’s surgery was 12/2/14 at Akron Children’s Hospital at only 2 months of age and yet again she proved she is one hell of a fighter. The wonderful surgeons, nurses, and doctors worked hard to mend and patch her tiny heart. The power of knowledge, hard work, skill, patience, love and most of all prayer helped get this little girl on the path to recovery and we will forever be thankful to those who have helped and continually help in this process.

As for the parents and family of Miranda, Barbara (Boo) and Jerry Drake, I can’t imagine the day to day struggle it is to make sure everyone is constantly healthy and happy. Miranda has lots of doctors’ visits, she is still on a feeding tube, and is on 5 different medications throughout the day and night. They also have two other children, Carter and Austynn.  Together as a family, they have shown us the true power of love, patience and positivity. They have more courage and strength than most of us will ever know.  In saying that, they are NOT the type of people to ever ask for help or want to “inconvenience” anyone. They are truly the most selfless people I know, but I couldn’t imagine the struggles they are enduring physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially. Medical bills, doctor appointments, specials medications, formulas, etc. I’m writing this to show Boo, Jerry, Carter and Austynn what they have shown us all this time, that positivity, love for one another, care, faith, and selflessness does not go un-noticed. I think we all have it in our hearts to help those we love most in our lives and let’s be honest the Drake family probably impacted each and every one  of your lives at some point. So that being said, please make a donation to this family in Honor of Sweet Miranda. All proceeds will go to help pay for medical bills, doctor appointments, medications, etc. Anything to help relieve a little stress during this time will forever be appreciated.

Thank you everyone for your constant Love and Support to this wonderful Family.

Forever Grateful,
