Hello, my name is blessing Ekwommadu and I’m sharing my story with a heavy heart and a deep hope that someone out there will hear me and help.
I became an orphan at a very young age. I don’t even remember how old I was when I lost both of my parents. After their deaths, life became a nightmare. I was mistreated by relatives and nearly forced into marriage at just 12 years old. Terrified, I ran away from my village, alone and desperate to survive.
At 15, I began working—hawking goods, cleaning, doing any job I could find just to feed myself and send something home to care for my younger siblings. Despite the pain and danger, I refused to give up on them.
But my journey has been full of heartbreak. During those years, I was raped—once by a stranger and another time by my own uncle. I had no choice but to run again. I spent nights on the streets, sleeping in abandoned buildings or anywhere I could find shelter. Every time I asked for help, someone tried to take advantage of me.
Still, I worked as hard as I could to keep my siblings alive. They were my reason to keep going.
But life can be cruel. While I was away working to support them, four of my siblings died from hunger and the harsh conditions they were living in. I still carry that pain every single day.
Now, it’s just me and my younger brother. He’s all I have left—and I am terrified of losing him too.
We are homeless. I sleep in empty buildings or wherever I can find safety, and my brother is still in the village, suffering. He calls me, crying, saying he’s tired and doesn’t know how much more he can take. And the truth is—I don’t know either. But I can’t give up.
I have dreams. I have ideas for a small business that could help us build a better life. I’m ready to work, to fight, to survive. But right now, I need help.
Please, if you’re reading this, I’m begging you—help us. Help me find a roof to put over our heads. Help me give my brother a chance to live. Help me turn our pain into something hopeful.
Even the smallest donation could be the miracle we’ve been praying for.

Thank you for listening to my story. If you can’t donate, please share this. You might be the reason we make it through.
