Ivan the Conquerer’s Amputation Expenses

Meet Ivan!

Hello! Ivan is a 2-1/2 year old Belgium Malinois and I am so proud to be his mom! He is an amazing, gentle, SMART soul who loves with ALL his heart! This is why I’m coming to you in his urgent time of need.

Ivan’s medical needs ...

We found Ivan when he was only 9 months old, running through traffic in a busy intersection, jumping on cars, begging for someone to let him in... so we did. We noticed that this young puppy had an injury to his right front paw, so when we took him to animal services to check for an owner, the animal services staff told us he would not be going back to his previous owner because of neglect and due to the fact that they had picked him up multiple times before. The staff also told us that the injury he has in his right front foot is nerve damage to his leg, although he still has feeling all the way down to his toes. To this day, we do not know what happened to Ivan, and it breaks my heart to think he sustained such a painful injury and was on the streets looking for someone to help him!

Since Ivan’s very first days with us, we tried every treatment possible, all to no avail. You see, Ivan’s injury is at his ankle, and the damage to the nerve has caused his paw to turn inward and upward requiring him to walk, run and play on that ankle bone. With the constant pounding on that ankle bone it will never get better.

Recently, Ivan’s ankle has been in a constant state of infection that will not heal. He has a severe open wound caused by the bursting of his skin, which has also resulted in the bone being exposed.

I change his bandages every day, but they are painful for him and also, I must be so very careful about blood loss. With these bandage changes, it can be very difficult to get the bleeding under control and I am so afraid that he will go into shock or bleed out.

Ivan is on antibiotics, but this whole situation is very hard on him because he cannot do any of the activities he loves because of the pain and the risk of worsening infection that could go through his body, killing him.

We’ve tried everything but we are now at the point where amputation is Ivan’s only option to moving forward to a better life. Keeping his leg is impossible due to the constant infections that are a risk to his very life.

These constantly worsening infections have come upon us so quickly! The costs associated with amputation surgery is staggering and not something we can do ourselves. So we are reaching out to you to open your hearts for Ivan so that he can have this surgery done right away. If you can donate to the cost of Ivan’s surgery and follow-up care and then share his story, I cannot tell you how much I will appreciate your generosity. Ivan’s future really does depend on this surgery and you can help us make this happen. Once Ivan heals from this amputation, there will be no stopping him! He will no longer suffer from the pain and infections.

Ivan is strong and tenacious, both excellent qualities for this type of surgery. And he’s got me ... his nurse, his pack leader, his best friend, and his strongest advocate. We have a wonderful, trusted veterinarian in our community that will do the surgery and I will be his home nurse and will bring him to all follow up visits with both the surgical vet and his regular vet once he is home.

Once again, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the generosity of your donation for Ivan.

Thank you. ❤️
