Friends and family of Kimber Lee Denison, this is her older brother Trent writing...
Kimber Lee was so full of kindness, always thinking of others. We are all deeply sadened by the loss of a beautiful young woman.
She was born on March 5th, 1981, in Aurora, Colorado. We moved to Texas when she was 10 years old. There she finished elementary school, middle school, and high school. In high school, she had the opportunity to take courses in cosmetology and graduated with the requirements necessary to take the state boards for cosmetology. She passed the test and began working as a hair stylist out of high school.
Kimber Lee was diagnosed with diabetes when she was 14 years old. Her new illness came as a shock to all of us. She attended Camp Sweeney, a summer camp for kids with diabetes to learn about diabetes management, self confidence, self-esteem, and to make new friends who are trying to figure it out, just like her.
As life went on, long hours on her feet became a chore and styling/coloring hair became more difficult. Sadly, for a time, she boxed up her combs and scissors to take a desk job in customer service. After moving to Utah, she opened up that box and cut and styled hair for friends and family in her home by request.
Balancing her illness and the accompaning medical bills with work was often a struggle for her. Getting and maintaining insurance was sometimes challenging with her many, many hospital visits.
Later in life she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, gastroparesis, and migraines. She often had nausea, vomiting, headaches, and body aches that prevented her from doing things she loved doing.
Her health issues often kept her home in bed, or in the hospital when she wanted to be working, or at least out with her friends.
As such, she never had much money, and the left overs she did have she spent on others. She passed away nearly broke, but still owing on her Jeep and loans for medical bills.
To the penny, her funeral costs from the moturary alone are $6,527.95 (with generous discounts from the funeral home). Then there are burial costs, flowers, the obituary, and more. Kimber Lee had a small life insurance policy from one of her employers. The burden of the remaining costs fall on us. Our mother relies on social security to make ends meet and each of Kimber Lee's brothers have donated what they can.
I'm starting this crowd funding campaign in hopes that those who knew Kimber Lee might be able to help in some way, even if it were only $5.00 and you kept yourself anonymous. Anything helps.
