Help us send Scott and Austin to the Wheelchair Hockey Worlds in Italy!
Scott Haycock and Austin Merkley, of the OPWHL (Ottawa Power Wheelchair Hockey League), have been selected as members of Team Canada and will compete at the 2018 World Championships from September 24th to October 1st in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy.
Scott and Austin will incur costs for airfare, accommodations, meals, medical equipment rentals and attendant care in the amount of $5,000 each.
Contributing to this GoFundMe campaign will allow Scott and Austin to compete on the PowerHockey world stage, and provide an opportunity that individuals with disabilities rarely experience due to financial and physical barriers. All contributors will receive an income tax receipt.
Scott and Austin, along with Ottawa coach Alex Lalonde, will join para-athletes from Toronto and Calgary, chosen to represent Canada at the IWAS (International Wheelchair & Amputee Sports) World Championships. Participating nations include The Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Denmark, Australia, Germany and Canada.
Power Wheelchair Hockey is an adapted sport for persons who use an electric wheelchair for mobility in their daily lives.
This is the first time in history that a team from North America will compete in this event and is the next step towards having PowerHockey recognized at the Paralympics.

Disability: Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
Scott is a co-founder of the OPWHL and has been playing PowerHockey since 2009. He has competed as a member of the Ottawa Capitals in National and North American PowerHockey tournaments since 2010 and has been Captain of the Capitals tournament team since 2016.

Austin has been playing PowerHockey since 2015. He competed in the National and North American championships respectively in 2017 & 2018.
