A Chance to go on March of Living

Donation protected
My name is Truman Brody-Boyd. I am 17 years old, a high school senior, a lover of history, and a proud Jew. Since I was eight years old, I’ve been marching. I’ve marched in the Revolutionary War and Civil War, going to battle in a full uniform and kit. I’ve always been into history, and along with it, marching. Now, I want to bring my experience with marching from my historical life to my Jewish life.

I hope to embark on the 2015 March of the Living. The March of the Living is a two-week experience in with thousands of Jews travel to Poland for a week and then Israel for a week afterwards. In Poland, the marchers travel to different concentration camps with survivors, hearing their stories and learning about the Holocaust. The March itself is from the train station at Auschwitz to the camp itself. The March exemplifies how Jews have conquered their past and have come to be stronger and prouder than ever before. Traveling to Israel, attendees tour the nation, study its history, and are present for Israeli Memorial Day and Israeli Independence Day.

Over the past three years, I have fully embraced my Judaism; studying to become a bar mitzvah, leading the local chapter of my Jewish youth group after its formation, traveling to Israel, having an internship with StandWithUs, and coming to be Shaliach of Virginia Council BBYO. As Shaliach, I now lead my fellow Jewish teens in prayer, as well as coordinate Israel advocacy, social action, and community service throughout the state. Attending the March would be the perfect pinnacle to my journey through Judaism that has taken place throughout high school. My grandfather escaped the horrors of the Holocaust. I want to go back and see what happened so that while I’m alive, it will never happen again. I want to go and see where my people were driven to the brink of extinction, only to rise from those ashes as the proud, vibrant, sovereign nation of Israel.

However, I need help getting there. The cost of the trip is a large amount due to it covering not only program fees but also travel expenses. I need support from my friends, family, and those who are kind enough to help one teen embark on the trip of a lifetime. Thank you so much!
