Dear friends and community,
I have been a good friend of Dara’s for over 5 years now. I’ve watched her struggle with mental health and the complex systems meant to help folks like her. I’ve watched her get herself off of social assistance, only for employers to abuse and mistreat her and force her back in. I’ve watched her make sacrifices in order to do what is best for her three kids - even if that means not seeing them for long periods of time during the pandemic.
And yet, she has never asked for help. She hates it, and often lets herself suffer instead of asking for what she needs. Today, she got an eviction notice. She is currently paying $1000 a month for rent when EIA only pays her $1200 a month for all living expenses. I've watched her barter and trade and do small jobs to make ends meet, but the debt piled up like it loves to do. She needs $1650 immediately to stay in her home, and is working on finding a roommate to lower her monthly costs in the future.

If we are not able to raise funds in time to avoid eviction, the funds collected will be reallocated towards moving expenses.
