1 in 8 women get diagnosed with breast cancer. That is shocking to me. I never realized this until my friend was the 1 out of 8. Her type of breast cancer is very rare and very difficult to treat.
I come from a family that has suffered from cancer for many generations. I, too, had Melanoma many years ago. When you hear the doctors say the word “cancer” your life stands still. All you want is to be ok, and get it removed off your body. It’s the worst feeling in the world. I was lucky.
My my friend Samantha is 33. She’s been a healthy, happy, medical sales rep, daughter, friend, and wife to her husband Dennis for 6 years. (They met and started dating when they were 15, while working at the Burbank Pool as lifeguards!) Sam is also an only child so she is very close to her parents Helen and Ron. Sam and Dennis would like to have children of their own, and grow their family someday. With her current diagnosis, and treatment plan, they have to freeze embryos and pray it works after her extensive chemotherapy. This chemo is no joke; having children naturally isn’t an option. The worst part is her fertility treatments aren’t covered by insurance. Unlike many breast cancer patients...because Sam is young, she still has to work, she still has to pay a mortgage. Time off from work with no pay and medical bills piling up is a MAJOR added stress her and her family don’t need right now.
For those of you that know Sam, I can guarantee you would have nothing but nice things to say about her. She’s the most generous, caring, helpful, and kind person I know. Sam is a dear friend to me...she is like my little sister. Please help me raise money to help her have the family she wants and deserves. All of you moms and dads know the love and joy a child can bring. Sam was meant to be a mommy.
Know that this could be me, it could be you, your sister, your daughter, your wife or girlfriend, and with odds like 1 out of 8, someday it may be....I sure hope not. Please, if you can give anything, we’d really appreciate it and hope someday if you need help someone will help you.
