Israel ‘Chiquis’ Ruiz is a walking/ talking miracle who inspires hope in all he interacts with! From birth, he has had to fight to survive and his battle is not only continuing, but is going to a new level. In his 17 years of life, he has endured 3 open-heart surgeries and is facing another one with the probability for a series of more life-threatening surgeries: including a possible heart transplant, as well as a liver transplant. This young man is so brave and gives all the credit for his miraculous life to His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

The following is a brief description of his diagnosis. “The Fontan operation is a series of three staged reconstructive surgeries in children born with single ventricle disease, a life-threatening condition characterized by a severely underdeveloped ventricle, one of the heart’s two pumping chambers. The palliative surgeries re-route blood to the lungs, but result in an abnormal physiology that puts many organ systems at risk. One such organ is the liver, in which fibrosis develops in response to elevated pressure within the veins.
