This August I will begin my three year dual-degree program at Widener University for a Master of Social Work and Master of Education in Human Sexuality. For those of you that know me well, this has been a dream of mine for many years (and I'm so excited!).
Much to my dismay, I received my financial aid award letter this morning, which (after assessing my financial need at 100%) only offers me loans that would cover 2/3 of my tuition cost.
For those who want the math:
My tuition (and tuition alone): roughly $15,000/semester
My aid: $500/semester for work study
The unsubsidized loan I am offered: $10,250/semester
**UPDATE: I have set up a payment plan that requires I pay $1,400 per month until my tuition is paid off. Due to your amazing generosity, I have been able to make my initial payment to begin the Fall semester!! THANK YOU to those who have donated. I'm still hoping to raise the difference through GoFundMe and at my new job. IT'S NOT TOO LATE TO DONATE!
This financial aid award comes as quite the shock to me, as I was given only 17 days to come up with the difference of $5,000. So, I'm out on a limb here, hoping some of you generous souls are willing to pay it forward.
I hope that those of you who know me can attest to my passion for comprehensive, queer-inclusive sex education--it's pretty much all I talk about. My long-term goal in obtaining my dual masters is to return to my hometown of Buffalo, NY to open a human sexuality resource center. I hope to provide sliding-scale sex education and sex therapy, as well as host a DIY sexuality resource library.
Your donations are an investment in the sex education of our youth, and the creation of communities (and one day a society) in which individuals of all genders, sexual orientations, races, social classes, etc. can receive pertinent and comprehensive sex education and support.
