Isla Turkington

Isla is a spirited five year old girl with fiery red hair and the spunk to match.  She is blessed with a fearless will and determination to take on whatever is placed in front of her.   

She is an active and vibrant young girl who enjoys mini golf, dancing like the star she is, and chasing around her big sister Emily and her friends (usually with her little sister Aubrey in tow)!

Barb and Trevor Turkington are attentive and supportive parents to their three lovely girls Emily 12, Isla 5, and Aubrey 3. On Monday March 14th, 2016 nothing could have prepared them for the life changing news they would receive about their middle child Isla.

That day in March the only indication that Barb and Trevor had that Isla was ill was unexplained puffy eyes when she woke in the morning.  Listening to their intuition a walk in visit led to an immediate trip to Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto where she was diagnosed with Lymphoma.  Right away this family and young fighter started their battle against this terrible illness, which has turned their lives upside down.

While this devoted family sticks together to try to support each other through Isla’s recovery, life and financial responsibilities continues to charge forward.  Over the upcoming weeks and months Isla’s recovery will be the main focus of the family.  Lymphoma “is like a marathon and not a sprint” as there is an eight to twelve month recovery time. This will require time off work for both Barb and Trevor to provide the emotional support for Isla and for their other two girls, as well as carrying the weight of providing the necessities of life.  With a little bit of help from each of us we can help ease some of the financial stress.
