Ishbel & Morag’s West Highland Way Challenge
Thanks for taking the time to visit our GoFundMe page! | Mòran taing airson tighinn a chèilidh air an duilleag Go Fund Me agam!
Ishbel MacIver and Morag MacLennan have been firm friends for over 50 years, since their school days in South Lochs, Isle of Lewis. From Lemreway and Marvig respectively, they are well trained in traversing the rugged terrain of rural Lewis, and love to get outside and to enjoy the great outdoors.
This summer, Ishbel & Morag will be fulfilling a lifelong ambition and challenge to walk the West Highland Way and hope to raise the sum of £500 for the Hebridean Men's Cancer Support Group and the Western Isles Cancer Care Initiative.
They've spent their training time walking in South Lochs - from Marvig to Gravir to Lemreway and everywhere in between.
Ishbel and Morag will be raising money for an organisation that holds a special meaning to them - the WICCI (Western Isles Cancer Care Initiative (WICCI) and the Hebrideans Men's Cancer Support Group.
Every penny donated will be an encouragement for the ladies as they take on this experience of a lifetime - in rain, sun, sleet and/or snow! (Hopefully just the sun!)
In January 2021, Ishbel’s brother Norman Nicolson (known as Flash) passed away after a short battle with oesophageal cancer.
The short timeline of his illness meant he had few opportunities to access support from groups on the island who work relentlessly to help and encourage those facing the reality of life with cancer.
The Hebridean Men’s Cancer group meet regularly in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, to offer emotional support and information to men affected by cancer, to support each other through losses, giving time and space to talk about fears and grief, and to enjoy fellowship by giving encouragement during the most difficult of times.
Any donation made towards the group will be gratefully received.
The Western Isles Cancer Care Initiative also support those affected by cancer through the availability of financial support, complementary therapies, counselling and care boxes as well as offering support and information to anyone in the Western Isles.
