Hi Everyone!
I am going to Jinja, Uganda. Yes, Uganda. "What? Wait:why Uganda??" Is the first thing most people think. It all started with a simple Google search, mission trips to orphanages. I have been on three different missions trips in the past, but never to Africa or a 3rd world country. I have had a yearning to go on a mission's trip this year, as I have had great desire to help people and show God's love. "But you can do that here:.you can volunteer at church or at a homeless shelter:" Yes, this is true. Daily I strive to meet the needs of those around me, wherever and as often as I can. But God has a plan, for me. My search turned into a relentless research and prayer session. I saw many opportunities in the Ukraine, India, China etc, but none of these left an imprint like Uganda. This is a country home to 2 million orphans. Which is a big number, a devastating and painful big number. I am a 26 yr old single mother to two kids. I honestly don't consider myself a "world changer". If I can positively impact the conditions in Uganda or change the lives of 2 million children. But I do know that for one person, I can change the world. This is where God gives me strength and courage to do what I am called to do, LOVE.
I will be in Jinja from May13-24th, 2014. It takes 27 hours to get there, stopping in New York, Amsterdam, Rwanda and landing in Entebbe, Uganda. It is a 3 hour car ride from the airport to Jinja. I will be staying at the Sole Hope guest house. A non for Profit Company that makes and provides shoes to the people in the community. I will also stay at the Amani Baby Cottage, where I will assist as needed. This includes cleaning, maintenance, office work, baby holding and simply playing with the children. It can house up to 60 children at a time, ranging in ages from days old to 5 years.
As I type out the details of this trip, I realize how crazy this all might sound. My family will be caring for my two children Nelson 4 and Catalina 2. This will be by far, the longest I have been apart from them and hardest reality of this whole trip. But, I know that God will keep me safe. He will be with my family and my children. Now more than ever, I am willing to do ANYTHING God wants me to do. I want my children to know that it is most important to love, to give, and to serve.
One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Romans 8:28."And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose."
I pray that God will stir your heart as he has mine. Any support that you are willing to give is greatly appreciated, financial, prayers or even encouraging words. Help me as I go to help others.
