Medical help for Brandi

Hi, I'm Brandi. I am a 28 year old single mother of two amazing kids.

So my story began a few weeks ago. I was checking off things I needed to accomplish before the end of the year; I remembered it was time to schedule my yearly pap! The day came and went, and just like that I checked that off my to do list. I figured I would store my results with all my previous 'normal paps.' A week later, my doctor discussed the results with me, which should have been my first red flag. She proceeded to tell me that I had high-grade, severe dysplasia. My initial response was shock! I had been getting paps for years with no abnormal results, so my immediate question was "what's next?" About a week later, the doctor repeated my pap, and yet again I waited another week for the results. Same outcome.

The initial shock was gone, but now worry started to set in because just two weeks prior to my initial pap, I opted out of health insurance through my job. Seems crazy, right? But this year has been extremely rough. I am barely making ends meet for my kids, and I couldn't fathom the thought of additional money coming out my check. I figured I would pay the Obama care penalty and save as much money as I could, because I am never sick....nothing ever happens to me outside of a common cold. Oh, how I was wrong!

After further discussions with my doctor regarding treatment of my dysplasia, it has been determined that I will need to have a consultation with an OB-GYN, I will have to have a colposcopy, and biopsy. Those results would determine my next course of action, which will be either a cryosurgery or the LEEP procedure.

After sitting on the phone for hours upon hours, I was sadly informed that I do not qualify for any medical financial assistance. As a self-pay patient, my cost for labs, consultations, and procedures will be well over $1,500 dollars!

I could just wait and save up the money over time, but anxiety sets in because both my mom and cousins have had dysplasia. They have overcome severe endometriosis and cervical cancer. Of course, I don't want to put the cart before the horse, but I do not want that to be my outcome, especially if such steps can be properly diagnosed and treated now. I have my first consultation scheduled for Dec. 29, and my colposcopy is scheduled for Jan. 22, 2015.

Please know that any and all help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks for listening to my story!!!!
