Support and Love 4 Isel & Charlie

Hello, friends and family.


For taking the time and effort to be here and show your support,  thank you. 
 
My name is Alina Thorne, from Chicago, IL and I have created this page to garner support for 2 family members who are suffering dire consequences at the mercy of natural disaster.


As most of you know, hurricane Maria ravaged directly through Puerto Rico and has completely crippled the island. The 4th strongest storm in U.S. history has brought catastrophe and loss to every single person living on the island. My thoughts are with everyone living through this disaster. 


I am here to create support for my family, Isel Ortiz and Charlie Barret,  who are my sister and brother-in-law living in the eastern coastal town of Fajardo, Puerto Rico.

 Charlie and Isel are esteemed, authentic, kind, and industrious people. The type of people who make a community stronger.They have become part of a proud Puerto Rican community, supporting local farmers, fishermen, and most of all the people who work with them every day in the restaurant.

Before hurricane Maria, Isel and Charlie pursued their entrepreneurial spirit and passion for food, making a living as restaurant owner/operators. They are truly a boon to the community and its residents.

The hurricane destroyed their business, their lively hood and also of those they employed at their restaurant. 

In addition, Isel and Charlie now find themselves among  3.4 million residents living with scarce basic resources and without electricity. 


Recovering from this catastrophe will be a gargantuan task, taking up massive effort and resources to accomplish.
Isel and Charlie are hard hit, suffering a devastating loss of property, and now a severed source of income.

Family, along with those who know, sympathize, admire, and love them are in a position to show support and collectively serve as their lifeline during this especially trying time.

They have found themselves in immediate need of relief for basic things like food, water, energy, supplies, hygiene, medicine, and much much more.  All of the funds accrued from this page will go directly to fulfilling these needs.

It is for these reasons we look to you for help in the form of a donation and ask that you share this story.
I have this go fund me account already wired directly to their bank account in Puerto Rico and they have already been able to access some of this money by withdrawing it from their bank account. Although I have only been able to speak to them twice they are so grateful already for your support! 

Isel and Charlie have always shown compassion, love, and assistance to those in need, but now find themselves in the need of help and kindness from those around them.

Please feel free to donate, share this story, and realize that even a small donation can make a huge difference in providing basic everyday needs, and will help them move one step closer to reopening their business and recovering their livelihood.

This natural disaster is a solemn reminder that we are not always in control, and that life brings unimaginable obstacles. We must make the best of our situation by remaining resilient, hopeful, and united through action. Siempre para adelante.


Our thoughts are with Isel and Charlie, and every family that has suffered a loss in hurricane Irma and Maria, Mexico, and with families affected by the most recent tragedy in Vegas.

With everything that has been going on in the world, it is inevitable for us to feel fear, doubt, anger, sorrow, and angst. It's important to remember to remain resilient, calm and connected, and that the essence of hope is seeing the light in the darkness and seek fortitude in each other.
