YWAM 2018

Hello Friends

As most of you guys know, since I have been talking about it for months, I will be going on a 6 month long program called YWAM (Youth with a Mission) and I will be starting up training on April 5th.

YWAM stands for Youth With A Mission and is global movement of Christians from different cultures, age groups, and Christian traditions, dedicated to serving Jesus Christ throughout the world and making God known. It will be a 6 month program that consists of 3 stages: the Training Phase (3 months), Field Assignment (2 months), and a Debrief Phase (1 month). YWAM provides many different curriculums and each has its own "theme" called DTS (Discipleship Training School). The theme that I decided to go with is called "Restorers". Through Restorers DTS, we will be learning how to have influence and power to restore hope to the hopeless, bring healing to the broken, and return the lost back to a Father who loves them more than we can fathom.

Why Am I Going There?

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16

18 “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.19 See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” Isaiah 43:18-19

Ever since the start of this new year, God placed Matthew 5:14-16 and Isaiah 43:18-19 in my heart. I was so moved by Matthew 5:14-16, and my heart has grown for missions work. This verse emphasizes the importance of shining "light" everywhere. I have come to realize that I live too comfortably, never really being stretched. As Christians, we should not cover ourselves in darkness; our faith should be bold and apparent to the rest of the world. With the light that lives within us, we are called to shine it brightly to the world rather than under a bowl. Through YWAM, I will get an opportunity to put this verse into practice with the 2 months of missions work I will be doing through the program. More personally, Isaiah 43:18-19 has been giving me confidence for this year as it will be filled with many “new things”. It gives me comfort because when I am in doubt or am not confident in myself I can rely on God to “make a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

What Will I Be Doing There?

I will be going to The University of the Nations at Kona, Hawaii (The main campus). There I will spend 3 months in the Training Phase, which is similar to taking classes at school. For the 2 months after that, I will transition to the Field Assignment which is the mission trip. I will be able to choose the location during the training, and I will continually be updating everyone through this email chain. The last stage is Debrief (Remix). During this time, all students will debrief the entire 5 month experience to help uncover God’s calling. There will also be a practical, in-depth teaching on: How to lead yourself spiritually beyond the DTS program. This consists of: how to create a community of accountable friends on mission for your next step, how to communicate your DTS experience to your family and home community, how to practically pursue your godly ambitions, and much more. Restorers DTS requires participation in this program to receive a certificate of completion.

Call for Support

If you would like to support me in any way, you can do so through prayer and financial support. I ask that you would constantly keep me in your prayers from the moment you get this letter throughout the entirety of the 6 months. I Have to raise up roughly between $10000 to $11000 because it will depend on the location of the outreach.

Prayer Requests

-Pray for me as I prepare to begin training. That I would not lean on YWAM or use it as an excuse to take my foot off the pedal for my faith.
-Pray for a God-centered vision for my life.
-Pray that God would strengthen my faith and that I would grow in love and desperation for Him.
-Pray for my focus. That I would not put anything before God or let any distractions hinder me.
-Pray that I go with the mentality to serve people.
-Pray for a good, healthy community and staff at YWAM so my experience can be maximized.

I will be making an email chain with updates throughout the entirety of the YWAM experience. This will include updates, such as finances and about the things I learn throughout the next 6 months.

Thank you! And God bless,
