My sister Isabella was severely electrocuted on July 17th.
"Electrocuted” doesn’t describe what happened to her. The flesh across her lower abdomen was seared down to the muscle.
While in her apartment alone, she brushed against a floor lamp while the power was surging. She became the conduit in the electric circuit, causing her to become paralyzed and unable to break away. She remained stuck, fried to the point she finally lost consciousness, which is what saved her life.
As it turns out, the breaker box in her building is not up to code and does not have a surge protector.
The electrician who examined the breaker estimates she received between 400-600 volts of electric shock.
She suffered 3rd degree burns not only across her abdomen, but also where the electricity exited her body via her shoulders, leg, and toes.
The doctors who treated her, expressed astonishment she was alive.
She was admitted to LA County’s Burn Unit where she had skin graft surgery. She has no health insurance. The initial surgery was covered by County insurance and covers her for 60 days from date of admittance. Her treatment and recovery is going to take about a year. Once healed, she can start plastic surgery to try to correct part of the deformation. She needs to see several specialists to determine what internal damage there might be as well as mental care. These specialists are all out of pocket.
She is unable to work.
She will be able to slowly start working in a few months.
