IS318 Cheerleading Road to Nationals!

IS318 is a NYC public middle school in Brooklyn NY. The cheerleading squad was started 4 years ago and has had great success in such a short amount of time. It is our dream to attend the UCA nationals in Disney next year!
The first step in reaching that goal is to attend a UCA summer camp. These camps are expensive! As we are a title 1 school many of our student's families can not afford the hefty cost.
Along with attending the UCA camp we will need to travel to Disney in Florida from NY and pay for our stay while there.
This is an opportunity of a lifetime for many of our students!
These middle school kids are working extremely hard to be amazing athletes and role models for their school. Competitive cheerleading involves the squad being able to perform a 3 minute routine highlighting their skills which include cheer, dance, gymnastics such as tumbling, jumps and stunting. The team learns how to advance their gymnastics skills in tumbling and learns techniques in stunting which involves lifting and throwing people in the air. The team works hard on conditioning in order to perform such advanced skills but also focuses heavily on team building skills.
Cheerleading, stunting especially involves putting oneself in other team members hands! Building trust and cooperation is extremely important. The goal of our team is to ensure all our members display the 5 character traits of a cheerleader, teamwork, leadership, discipline, responsibility, and sportsmanship. They show these character traits not only in their hard work at practice and at competitions but also in the classroom. As a coach I monitor the behavior and grades of all members to ensure they are carrying over these traits from cheerleading into their school work. All members of the squad display a positive attitude and try to share that with all members of the school community!
