IRONMAN for suicide prevention

Dear friends and potential supporters,
Suicide is a worldwide challenge, accounting for nearly 1 million deaths per year. Directly, or indirectly, the loss and grief that is associated when someone completes suicide impact us all.
Research has consistently demonstrated that suicide is closely related to depressive symptoms, including the feeling of hopelessness. Depression is on the rise in our communities and is again something we may all have an intimate relationship with.
While psychotherapy has been shown to help in decreasing depression and suicide completion, it is not accessible to everyone due to lack of resources and stigma. For these, and many other reasons, I believe that suicide prevention is a cause that is best served at a population level— through raising awareness of this public health concern and working together to provide support to those in need.
Therefore, the purpose of my campaign is to work together to provide greater hope to those who may be suffering.
I intend to accomplish this through increasing the awareness of the potential benefits of exercise to reducing depression. The culmination of this current journey and the end date of my campaign is July 29th, 2018, when I will be competing in the Whistler IRONMAN. I will be competing that day for those suffering from depression and suicidality.
I am asking for you to join me on this journey by helping me raise $5000 that will %100 go toward an organization that is supporting those who are struggling with depression and suicidality. The organization is still to be determined, and I am open to suggestions.
While I will shortly lay out the specifics of my campaign, including offerings and uniform sponsorship opportunities, I am now asking for individual contributions to help get this campaign rolling.
