Hurricane Irma
This is real story. We are amidst thousands of people who had their homes wiped out and are currently on the brink of severe – when not despairing - survival conditions. We witnessed the disaster and felt how ferocious and merciless a hurricane can be.
Hurricane Irma destroyed not only the houses and vessels along the Caribbean Islands.
It devastated far more than that: it practically annihilated almost everything made by man and God.
That´s not the most important thing, though. Everything can be rebuilt and nature will eventually recover.
However, hurricane Irma was way more destructive than people may think, because it ruined the possibility of reaching the basics of living, namely eating, drinking fresh water, bathing or simply going to the toilet. During a period that is still hard to reckon, the inhabitants won´t be able to go to work and get back home to rest or spend their weekends with family and friends. They will be deprived of the trivial, yet important, things they were used to, such as watching TV, listening to radio, surfing the net and feeling connected to the world.
Children no longer have schools to be taught and their
future is severely jeopardized by the massive destruction of education and health facilities.
For most and true inhabitants of these islands, the only hope left is to wait for help.
Everything is needed: water, food, shoes, clothes, medicine, toys, lanterns, batteries, solar chargers, diesel for power generators and saws, desalinators, canvas, wood and all sorts of tools.
They are short of survival conditions. They lack the fundamentals of a new start.
We made it out of the hell. But we want to go back there and fight for rebuilding those lives. After the first hours of despair, chaos and confusion, we are aware that helping out other people is the only way to relieve the trauma of loss and death imminence we feel. That is how we will manage to move forward, get over and keep stronger after the tragedy.
We lost everything, though. We were inside the beast´s eye. We are also victims of the same misfortune. That´s why we need your help.
